What is amber made from?
Baltic Amber is not a stone, it is a fossilised tree resin & is warm to touch & light to wear. The resin was produced by plants 40-50 million years ago. Plants would have used the resin as an antibiotic against viruses and to heal wounds.

How does amber work?
Amber is for wearing. Amber can be worn by children and adults alike.

Baltic Amber Necklaces and Bracelets/Anklets are NOT for chewing and should not be put in or around a child’s mouth. Adult supervision is always recommended when children are wearing Baltic Amber Necklaces or other jewellery.

How do I choose which Baltic Amber Necklace to buy?

When shopping in The Amber Room, the challenge you will face is choosing the colour and style of the Baltic Amber Necklace that you like the best. We often get asked which Baltic Amber Necklace is best for teething babies – and whilst the lighter coloured amber contains the most succinic acid, we find that all colours and styles of Baltic Amber Necklaces tend to be as effective as each other for easing teething pain. We also often get asked which size Baltic Amber Necklace is best for babies. We do recommend that at least two adult fingers should fit between the Baltic Amber Necklace and the child’s neck.

Is it ok for the Baltic Amber to be worn all day, including sleep time?
Whilst for best results Baltic Amber should be worn as much as possible, but we do recommend adult supervision at ALL TIMES when children are wearing Baltic Amber Necklaces or bracelets/anklets. We recommend that a Baltic Amber Necklace or bracelet/anklet be removed at sleep times and Baltic Amber Necklaces should never be put in a child’s mouth. Can the Baltic Amber Necklace get wet?
Yes, it is fine for amber to get wet, but The Amber Room does not recommend that the Baltic Amber Necklaces or other jewellery be in extended contact with water as it may weaken the thread allowing it to break more easily.

How long will the Baltic Amber Necklace last?
Baltic Amber Necklaces are designed for use by babies & young children and are therefore very durable. With the right care, your Baltic Amber Necklace should last for use with several children and across generations even. What a lovely heirloom!

Baltic Amber Necklaces from The Amber Room are strung on durable thread and the beads are individually knotted. The Amber Room’s Baltic Amber Necklaces also have screw clasps.

Is the Baltic Amber Necklace for chewing on?
No. Children should not put the beads in or around their mouth and there is no need for this to occur. Baltic Amber Necklaces work by wearing them. There is no need for the child to put the beads anywhere near their mouth and this is not recommended for ANY reason. Choking and strangulation hazards can apply.

Are Baltic Amber Necklaces safe?
Each bead on the Baltic Amber Necklace is knotted singularly so that in the event that the string breaks, only one bead will release and beads should not be lost - however choking and stragulations hazards can apply. Adult supervision is always recommended whilst children are wearing Baltic Amber Necklaces or other amber jewellery - choking and strangulation hazards can apply. Please check the specific product description before you purchase to ensure you are comfortable with the product.

ABOUT HAZELWOOD

Where does Hazelwood come from?

Hazelwood is native to Canada and was first used by Aboriginal people centuries ago when they discovered the soothing benefits of placing hazelwood bark chips on their babies necks to ease teething pain.

How does Hazelwood work?

Hazelwood is for wearing close to the skin.  

How soon does it work?

The benefits of hazelwood will vary from person to person, but can usually be seen as early as 24 to 48 hours after starting to wear the hazelwood jewellery.

Can it cause allergies?

There are no known allergy issues to hazelwood products. The beads are made with the hazelwood branch, not the nut. However, if irritation occurs, we recommend removing the jewellery immediately. 

In some instances, like with other natural remedies, symptoms may become worse before they improve. We recommend monitoring this closely and if in doubt, remove the product.

Is Hazelwood natural?

The hazelwood beads in the jewellery sold by The Amber Room are 100% natural and handmade from organically grown hazelwood trees.

Can my child chew the necklace?

NO! Your child should not put the necklace anywhere near their mouth. The necklace works by the hazelwood absorbing acidity out of the body as it is worn close to the skin, not by your child chewing it. The Amber Room recommends adult supervision when necklaces are worn by small children and that necklaces are removed at sleep times. Choking and strangulation hazrds can apply.

Can I get my necklace wet?

It is NOT recommended to wear the hazelwood necklaces, bracelets or anklets while bathing or in pools, spas, or in other highly chlorinated water as it will shorten the lifespan of the necklace.

However, keeping the hazelwood moist does improve the effectiveness of the hazelwood - so wet the necklace with clean water any time you need an extra "boost."

What if the bark starts coming off?

Don't be alarmed if/when the bark starts to come off the hazelwood beads. The wood beads may change over time as they are a natural product and cannot be coated with anything in order to ensure that they remain effective and perform their function. 

How long does the jewellery last?

Hazelwood jewellery should last 6 - 12 months. We recommend replacing the jewellery regularly.

You will know that your jewellery needs replacing when the symptoms start to return. You may also notice that the ends of the wood on the beads start to darken.

How much should I wear it? Can I sleep in it?

The Amber Room recommends wearing the hazelwood necklace close to the skin and as much as possible to maximise the therapeutic benefit, but we always recommend adult supervision when necklaces are worn by young children. We recommend removing it at sleep times.
